HUMAN LIFE IS PRECIOUS is the first English book by Sayadaw Jnanapurnik. The Dhamma texts are transcribed from Dhamma talks given during the retreat conducted by Sayadaw in Kundasang, Sabah in June 2005.
In this book, Sayadaw explains how precious our human life is — only in human life we have the opportunity to purify ourselves to achieve Buddhahood.
Sayadaw teaches the Dhamma yogis the path to overcome sorrow and to gain the realization of genuine happiness. It is the full responsibility of each individual to develop this path and to realize that happiness. Therefore, let all those who are endowed with confidence and wisdom be diligent in making full use of this rare opportunity of being born as human being, obtained from their previous merit.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sayadaw U Jnanapurnik is descendant of the Sakyan clan. Born in Nepal in 1939, he renounced at the early age of 16. He has completed 46 vassas (rain retreats). At the age of 23, he obtained a degree in Buddhist Studies and has been teaching the Buddha Dhamma ever since. He is also well-versed in the Pali Tipitakas. Sayadaw has a flair for languages and is fluent in seven languages. Thus, it is no surprise that he became Mahasi Sayadaw's interpreter in the early 70's and in the course of his duties, he has traveled widely in the West to reach the Dhamma and Vipassana meditation. Sayadaw is the Chief Abbot of Vishwa Shanti Vihara in Kathmandu, Nepal, which is also his current residence.
