“And what, bhikkhus,
is the Noble Truth of the Cessation
of Suffering?
(1) With ignorance’s remainderless
fading away and cessation, formation ceases;
(2) With formation’s ceases, consciousness
ceases;
(3) With consciousness’s ceases,
mind-matter ceases;
(4) With mind-matter’s ceases, the
six bases cease;
(5) With the six bases’ ceases,
contact ceases;
(6) With contact’s cessation,
sensation ceases;
(7) With sensation’s cessation,
craving ceases;
(8) With craving’s cessation,
clinging ceases;
(9) With clinging’s cessation,
coming-into-existence ceases;
(10) With the cessation of
coming-into-existence, birth ceases;
(11) With birth’s cessation,
(12) ageing & death, sorrow,
lamentation, pain, grief and despair cease.
Such is the cessation of this whole
mass of suffering.
This is called, bhikkhus, the Noble
Truth of the Cessation of Suffering.
~Anguttara Nikaya III.II.ii.1 “Titth
Ayatana Suttam” (Sectarian Doctrines Sutta)
