The Venerable Sayadaw U Thondara, the Kamatthanacariya (meditation master) of foreign yogis (meditators) at the Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha, arrived in Penang on the 9th of December 1983 to start his first Dhamma mission in Malaysia. Two of the ten-day meditation retreats were conducted at the Malaysian Buddhist Meditation Centre in Penang. Throughout both the meditation retreats, the Venerable Sayadaw gave daily Dhamma talks to the yogis, always stressing the practical aspects of the Buddha’s Teachings.
This book is the transcript works from the Venerable Sayadaw’s Dhamma talks and it contains two sections.
The first section has been chosen from the Dhamma talks given by Venerable Sayadaw U Thondara to the general public. The talk on “Ultimate Truth and Conventional Truth” though meant for yogis may be help to the public in fostering better understanding of the intensive practice of meditation as compared to the non-intensive daily practice of mindfulness which is imperative in the Buddhist way of life.
The second section, meant only for meditators, comprises of talks in order for them to guide, encourage and show the proper practice of the Teachings that leads eventually to the liberation from sufferings.
