The booklet is a “hands on” recitation formula for lay Buddhists chant daily wherever or whenever suitable, is it at home, in temples/watts or other appropriate places.
Traditionally, lay Buddhists chant these formulae according to the Pali text’s pronunciation or Magadhi Prakrit which is believed to be the language spoken by the Buddha and the language of the ancient kindom of Magadha in India. Today, they have been written in modern Romanised and Chinese characters, according to the sound of the Pali pronunciation.
The Pali recitation formulae includes for taking refuge in the Triple Gem, recital of Five Precepts, stanzas requesting for protections and transference of merits. They are laid out on the odd number pages of this booklet. Their meaning in both English and Chinese fall on the even number pages.
